Features of working on a pottery wheel

Working on a pottery wheel requires certain skills and techniques.
Here are the main stages of the process:
  • Clay preparation
The clay is kneaded and cleaned from impurities. Then it is placed on the wheel and moistened to the right consistency.
  • Centering
The clay is aligned in the center of the wheel to avoid imbalance and deformation.
  • Shaping
Using hands and tools, the potter gives the clay the desired form. It can be a cup, a plate, or another object.
  • Drying
After shaping, the piece is left to dry. It is important to control the humidity to avoid cracks and deformation.
  • Firing
The finished piece is fired at high temperatures to become strong and durable.
  • Glazing and finishing
After the first firing, the piece can be decorated with glazes or underglazes. Then it is fired again to fix the colors and achieve a smooth, durable surface.
